Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE)

At Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design, our Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) program is dedicated to nurturing the unique talents of gifted students. The program aims to identify potential and giftedness in the four domains, creative, intellectual, physical, and social-emotional, in all students. Through a personalised and enriched curriculum, our HPGE program empowers students to realise their academic and artistic potential and become visionary creators and leaders in the community. We have two HPGE streams, the Visual Arts and Design Stream and the Enrichment Stream, to meet the learning needs of our HPGE students.

• High expectations and high support: Teachers at our school provide rich learning opportunities for HPG students that are tailored to student needs. With this rigorous approach to learning, comes the support of teachers who know and value their students, and ensure that their wellbeing is a priority.
• Evidence-based practice: Staff are trained in HPGE, with most having completed the University of New South Wales Mini Certificate of Gifted Education, ensuring they are empowered with the latest professional learning. The school’s dedicated HPGE Team ensures excellence in line with the Department of Education’s HPGE policy.
• Future-readiness: Our staff are committed to ensuring students are ready for senior school, and the world beyond. Through an array of elective subjects, work experience opportunities, and collaboration with our school’s careers advisor, our approach to HPGE is informed by our students’ aspirations and their needs to go out into the world, informed and inspired.

Visual arts and design specialisation

Our Visual arts and design specialisation offers a dynamic and inspiring environment where creatively gifted learners are challenged to deepen their skills, engage in innovative projects, and explore advanced concepts.

Enrichment stream

At Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design, our Enrichment Stream provides opportunities for the students to interact and learn with similarly gifted students in an academically challenging and stimulating environment. Staff trained in HPGE understand the characteristics of gifted learners, and use their skills to create opportunities for extension, enrichment, and deeper learning. Higher-order learning strategies challenge and engage students, ensuring their academic needs are met. Additionally, academically gifted students participate in various co-curricular activities, including problem solving intensives, The Big Science Competition and Math and STEM Challenges.

Enrichment classes will have the opportunities to:

• Engage in external competitions and challenges
• Annual showcase of student achievement
• Take part in intensive enrichment days each semester
