Science

A study of science is mandatory for all students from Kindergarten to Year 10.

Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design has an experienced and enthusiastic science staff with four well-equipped laboratories.

The Science Faculty offers a wide range of challenging and stimulating topics in the junior years and elective subjects in the senior years: Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth & Environmental Science. Students develop knowledge, skills and understanding in integrated areas of physics, chemistry, biology and earth sciences. There is a strong emphasis on skill acquisition, literacy, numeracy and ICT. Students are encouraged to become autonomous learners through their acquisition of knowledge, engagement, understanding, confidence, their creativity and appreciation of science in the 21st Century.

Gifted and Talented

The Science faculty promotes several Gifted and Talented opportunities for students at DHSVAD to showcase their personal best. Eg: Big Science Competition, Olympiad, etc. Field trips to the Zoo, Maritime Museum, UNSW, UTS, Australian Museum, CSIRO, Sydney Observatory and the Powerhouse Museum complement specific learning outcomes covered in the curriculum and provide enrichment to student learning.

In Years 11 and 12, students can choose from different science disciplines, including:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Earth and Environmental Science
  • Investigating Science
  • Physics
  • Science Life Skills.
