The faculty offers the following courses in Years 11-12:

Senior History

 The faculty offers the following History courses in Years 11-12:

The Preliminary Ancient History course focuses on archaeology and science and their contribution to the study of ancient societies. Students undertake at least one case study from a wide selection such as; Ancient Human Remains, Homer and The Trojan War, Masada, Etruscan tombs or Tutankhamun's tomb. Students also study ancient societies such as the City of Rome in the Late Republic, Thera or Deir El Medina in Egypt. Scope is provided for historical investigation connected to a case study, ancient society or personal interest.  HSC course students study the Core topic on the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, a personality study (such as Akhenaten, Hatshepsut or Ramses 11), one historical period from Egypt and an ancient society such as the Spartans or New Kingdom society. 

The Preliminary Modern History course focuses on the core topic of The world at the beginning of the 20th Century and a study of at least two case studies such as the Cuban Revolution and the American civil rights movement. Emphasis is on source analysis and study and Scope is provided for historical investigation in those topics. HSC course students study World War I in depth, a 20th century national study of Germany and a personality related to that country such as the film maker Leni Riefenstahl.  Students study one option from International Studies in Peace and Conflict such as  The Cold War.

History Extension is offered as a 1 Unit course for the HSC year to Ancient and Modern History students who display significant ability. Students examine the theories behind the writing of history by studying a selection of historians over time – in effect studying the history of historians. Students then do a case study on either Ancient Egypt and the Life of Teti or Elizabeth I to put their theoretical knowledge into practice. Finally, they are able to research an aspect of history that particularly interests them and write an essay project on it.
